You can see at the bottom that I tried a regular traveling vine pattern, but when I got up to the tulip pattern I just went right and left twists. I've decided that I wanna make the tulip a bit taller...I think the middle petal needs more height. I also wanna go back and make the bottom outer edges of the tulip more prominent. I'm also gonna go back do a twisted stitches version of the traveling vines leading up to the flower.<br /><br />Oh, and I've realized that dark blue is entirely the wrong color for this. It's just been a weird couple of weeks trying to design. I was working on the lotus shawl before I got bored and decided maybe it wanted to be a hat. Then I wrote up a pattern for double-thickness gloves, but then I had trouble getting gauge and got bored with that. And now I'm back to working on the supposed 'evil hat' pattern.<br /><br />It's still blue...still cables and lace, but this time in worsted yarn with less repeats. My goal is to have it test knit so it can be out sometime in September or Early October.<br /><br />I also really wanna do some kind of hoodie in the future so I can learn pattern grading. It's covered in 'The Advanced Knitting' architect, which I've read...but I still need some real practice.<br /><br />(I'm secretly hoping Knitty comes out on Oct. 4th...it'd be a GREAT 22nd birthday present!)<br /><br />Stuck in the apartment for now, waiting for maintenance to come change our doorknob sometime this week.<br /><br />Meanwhile I'm going to try to get my hair dyed and get to the yarn store this weekend. I'm thinking about using up my design money on fun classes so I can knit better. Maybe I'll actually stop by WP for happy hour this friday...if of course I'm not working on something insanely fiddly.<br /><br />-MandaA Muschahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02537185077714990021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523224314850532116.post-26454322452891013342010-08-09T08:55:00.000-07:002010-08-09T09:16:11.554-07:00Impulse Shawl Pattern<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4081/4813076974_90fabb95e6_b.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 556px; height: 312px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4081/4813076974_90fabb95e6_b.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4139/4875529779_4b2935872a_b.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 555px; height: 370px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4139/4875529779_4b2935872a_b.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4122/4813075100_5fd0e8aaaf_b.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 555px; height: 370px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4122/4813075100_5fd0e8aaaf_b.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />All knitters do it. And yes, I wet it down and pinned it out so I could accurately plan out the rest of the thing. Right now it has three tiers of flower petals with 8 petals in each tier. (It's 12 inches in diameter.) I have the pattern written out to 7 tiers, which would give me about a 52 inch diameter. I think that's a little small but I think it'd be HUGE if I added an 8th tier given the way the petals increase. (Yet there is something poetic about 8 petals over a constant multiple of 8 stitches in 8 tiers spanning a multiple of 8 rows...)<br /><br />We'll see! If I think I can keep it under 70 inches with 8 tiers, that's so what I'm doing!<br /><br />I'm also going to include instructions for doing 5/8 rather than a full circle.A Muschahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02537185077714990021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523224314850532116.post-25480275195913123642010-07-20T11:18:00.000-07:002010-07-20T11:27:28.410-07:00The Impulse Shawl<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4081/4813076974_90fabb95e6.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 500px; height: 281px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4081/4813076974_90fabb95e6.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4122/4813075100_5fd0e8aaaf.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4122/4813075100_5fd0e8aaaf.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />It was nice here today so I reshot pictures of my two samples.<br /><br /><br /><br />The teal one is going to my mom, and the multicolored blue/black/green one is for me. And I decided to start knitting at the edging and decrease to the back of the neck. Kind of a weird way to do it, but it let me make sure that my edging worked the magic that I wanted.<br /><br />I think I got it pegged. From this point out, the shawl is straight stockinette and the color runs are long enough to cover more than a row. Still, I know I want to make another version before I release the pattern, either in a solid yarn or one with longer color repeats<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQmywKtLqUEAdWNmKm3G7ZhwwOiSN0eC0UHEFeqc-Jjpla0QiZRlhD4HKSA6z7kbZza_IszysFSlQxQjj2qZR7BAt0sk422K7K1bIDplpplnjtVECkCISvd9opUQXcUuEuDaThYPX3qyUk/s1600/DSCN0461.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQmywKtLqUEAdWNmKm3G7ZhwwOiSN0eC0UHEFeqc-Jjpla0QiZRlhD4HKSA6z7kbZza_IszysFSlQxQjj2qZR7BAt0sk422K7K1bIDplpplnjtVECkCISvd9opUQXcUuEuDaThYPX3qyUk/s320/DSCN0461.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5484989359528745218" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFbHV_a7HZ4ZabbQTB5sL2QsgRa4AnuEgZjin2ka98B1XkwJx1T5JJ2yM3lMVpVsaHgBSNCR0DHgeinLQTataGt7GR8jXrQsL77Hgz-D5ppFZH42fqZS6R1L6mqeZg2RW1rf8rvcfcSCkw/s1600/DSCN0468.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 127px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFbHV_a7HZ4ZabbQTB5sL2QsgRa4AnuEgZjin2ka98B1XkwJx1T5JJ2yM3lMVpVsaHgBSNCR0DHgeinLQTataGt7GR8jXrQsL77Hgz-D5ppFZH42fqZS6R1L6mqeZg2RW1rf8rvcfcSCkw/s320/DSCN0468.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5484989560086305522" border="0" /></a><br />Now I just have to be motivated enough to finish it...we'll see.A Muschahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02537185077714990021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523224314850532116.post-78125845526346306352010-06-08T13:18:00.000-07:002010-06-08T13:21:53.708-07:00The Evil Hat of Evil...is what I've nicknamed this project. I've made so many stupid mistakes. I ended up ripping back to the band again because I picked the project up, and managed to turn around and knit the wrong way for a few rows. Weird, right?<br /><br />I'll come up with a nice beautiful name for the pattern after it is finished. (Ignore the black lines, they're lifelines so if I fudge, I'm not at square one again.)<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEise8RFy5_PsJq2L5PH8Y_rKCVa5pqbHZa0iRF1u0yyn7MrEzkbuCuMuLxURaEvqsvTfbsFMA8CsztCnNGtCq-DrY_r93cSPNjri4NKHj1HWZztbQ0Fa99W50gQZk6gNVhx0ZnuTRc85wf1/s1600/DSCN0444.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 307px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEise8RFy5_PsJq2L5PH8Y_rKCVa5pqbHZa0iRF1u0yyn7MrEzkbuCuMuLxURaEvqsvTfbsFMA8CsztCnNGtCq-DrY_r93cSPNjri4NKHj1HWZztbQ0Fa99W50gQZk6gNVhx0ZnuTRc85wf1/s320/DSCN0444.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480500392796284994" border="0" /></a><br />I think I'll do two more repeats of the pattern before I close it off. What a fun project, though I don't think I'll be motivated to do that much beading again any time soon. I gotta admit the crochet hook method worked WAY better than stringing them all ahead of time.<br /><br />http://www.etsy.com/listing/48142810/knit-blue-shrug-bolero-w-gold-beaded</p>A Muschahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02537185077714990021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523224314850532116.post-82602041897950411262010-05-25T14:32:00.000-07:002010-05-25T14:35:21.508-07:00Get your wings...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVeQA9XoviFpY6KztSUcbNw8dmJ0ZpbVgqowyc6NmNgcnrHW2qEDY1y6xZE1hnqOyYQTffzOrHs48vsQqes_IO2YRRiFHsDK1hffp9t1IilcCEqLtV7sLexKijocNeR12huIbECULkVKNi/s1600/DSCN0378.JPG"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVeQA9XoviFpY6KztSUcbNw8dmJ0ZpbVgqowyc6NmNgcnrHW2qEDY1y6xZE1hnqOyYQTffzOrHs48vsQqes_IO2YRRiFHsDK1hffp9t1IilcCEqLtV7sLexKijocNeR12huIbECULkVKNi/s320/DSCN0378.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5475324068369286082" border="0" /></a>I'm edging up on another update to the shop. I'm hoping to get some glove patterns offered in the next few weeks.<br /><br />I figured I would share a picture of this cute little shrug I'm working on. I still need to pick an edging and crochet it...but the golden beaded wings are very subtle and cute...they wrap just under the sleeves.<br /><br />Look for it in my shop soon!A Muschahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02537185077714990021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523224314850532116.post-864149594373984212010-05-17T21:13:00.001-07:002010-05-17T21:13:06.744-07:00Purple Shrug Bolero<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/31664299@N08/4616152063/" title="photo sharing"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4019/4616152063_ddd183505e_m.jpg" alt="" style="border: solid 2px #000000;" /></a><br /><span style="font-size: 0.9em;
